Coronavirus VII: We Are Ready and You Can Be Ready Too!

For over 25 years my office, The Center for Holistic Medicine  located in West Bloomfield, MI, has been effectively treating viral infections. The last few days I have seen the panic that is occurring: schools are closing, college students sent home, and all large events are being cancelled. Rather than a time to panic, this is a time to reflect on our health care system and how to ensure that your immune system is ready to fight COVID-19 (the present coronavirus infection).

Conventional medicine’s approach to COVID-19 is suboptimal. They can offer hand washing and quarantining. That is about it. Really, it is pathetic!!

At my office, we are not worried about COVID-19. As I mentioned above, we have been successfully treating coronavirus, influenza, rhinovirus and many other viral flu-like illnesses since 1993. That is a long history.

The media and the Powers-That-Be would have you believe that this is the first-time coronavirus has ever infected humankind. That is simply not true. In fact, about 20% of common colds are caused by…coronavirus. (1) It is important to know that coronaviruses have been around for hundreds of years. I know this strain is different, but all viruses change (mutate) on a yearly basis. In fact, the influenza virus changes during every flu season. As I previously stated, I have been treating these viral changes for over 25 years.

My partners (Dr. Nusbaum, Dr Ng,  Taylor Eason, NP & Jenny Drummond, PA) have all found success using natural therapies to enhance the body’s immune system as well as to kill viruses including flu-like viruses. Today, I ordered intravenous hydrogen peroxide, vitamin C, ozone, and glutathione for my sick patients. I am confident these therapies will help them recover uneventfully. Keep in mind my partners and I have nearly 80 years of experience with these therapies! Not only do they work, they can be miraculous. Just ask our patients!

Intravenous nutrient therapies are wonderful treatments, but there are other oral natural therapies that are effective against viral infections including coronavirus. Vitamins A, C, and D along with iodine have proven benefit. At the first sign of any illness, I suggest my patients take 100,000 U of vitamin A (NOT beta-carotene), 50,000 U of vitamin D3 and 5-10,000 mg of vitamin C per day for four days. Pregnant women should not take high doses of vitamins A and D. Vitamin C can be increased to bowel tolerance.

What else can you do? It is important to eat a healthy diet free of refined sugar, salt, oils, and flour. And, perhaps the most important thing is to maintain optimal hydration. That means taking your weight in pounds, divide the number by two and the resultant number is the minimum amount of water to drink in ounces per day. I cannot stress the importance of drinking optimal amounts of water.

I had my annual lecture last Saturday. My office manager, Ann, called me one week ago today and said she felt like she was getting sick. She started taking the above supplements (vitamins A, C, and D) and reported that next morning, “This stuff works. I feel totally normal. I am sure I was getting sick. I can’t believe how much better I feel.” We hear the same results from our patients on a daily basis.

It is too bad hospitals refuse to use natural therapies on sick patients. That is when a patient needs it the most. Intravenous hydrogen peroxide, vitamin C and ozone should be done in every hospital across the United States. But, don’t hold your breath for that to occur. Over 20 years ago when I rounded on patients in the hospital, I ordered a nutrient IV that contained vitamin C and minerals. Right after the order was registered, I received a call from the pharmacy department. The head pharmacist told me that was not on the formulary. I replied, “I don’t care. I wrote the order and I expect it to be done. I know you have the ingredients in the hospital.” I was told I would have to contact the medical director and go in front of a committee to make my case. The medical director called me later that day telling me that IV would never be allowed. I told him I would not admit any more patients to that hospital.

As Forrest Gump said, “That’s all I have to say about that.”

Final Thoughts: Coronavirus is nothing to take lightly. It is also nothing to panic about. Yes, some will get very sick from it. Keep in mind that people get sick from many things. Viruses can cause serious problems. To minimize your risk, follow the instructions I have outlined for you here.

At the Center for Holistic Medicine we have been ready for COVID-19 for over 25 years. I look forward to seeing you at my office.

To All Our Health,
~DrB

can we take Vitamin A (from Retinyl Palmitate and Fish Liver Oil) .Also, buffered C can be used? Does it matter if it is time release?

    • Author Icon

      Sk,
Either source is ok–I prefer palmitate brand. As for vitamin C, ascorbic acid is fine, buffered ascorbic is fine and time-release is fine.

    Hi Dr. B!

This information is truly incredible. Thank you for sharing. I was hoping you had a recommendation for pregnant women and breastfeeding women on what to do holistically if exposed/sick/or feel something coming on? I am breastfeeding my 14 month old a few times a day and am trying to get pregnant so I know I won’t be able to use your recommendation. But for my husband and kids I will def be using this. What is your recommendation for % on iodine? Your Vit c is out of stock, any recommendation on another good one? Sorry, one more question, I am looking for a holistic Dr in San Diego or a holistic center, any good recs? Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

    • Author Icon

      Jacie,
Vitamin C is not out of stock. Pregnant women can take vitamin C (my doses ok) and smaller amounts of vitamin D (2-4,000 IU/day) than I recommended. They should not take vitamin A. As for a holistic doc in San Diego, Garrick Ng is an excellent ND who is doing many of the therapies done at my office.

I have a question. Will this prevent Cytokine Storm from forming in your lungs? I completed day 1 yesterday after feeling sick for 3-4 days.
I stopped smoking Marijuana yesterday until I feel normal again and I do not smoke cigarettes.

    • Author Icon

      I,
My protocol should lessen the chance of cytokine storm. Between my 4 other partners and myself we have had no cases of that this flu season and we generally don’t other seasons as well.

So just to be sure – are these doses something we take to keep from getting sick or doses we take if we feel we are getting sick? My husband is going thru his last two weeks of radiation and chemo for clean up after lung cancer surgery so we have to go there 5 days a week. We have started wearing masks and minimize contact everywhere else.

    • Author Icon

      Sandi,
They are usually taken at the start of an illness. If you are exposed to someone with it, I would advise start taking it.

Has anyone or any facility tried UV Light to kill the virus. I know some hospitals are using large UV light system to kill antibiotic resistance viruses and bacteria aka superbugs in hospitals-can a version be used on people? Just a thought. If not on people UV units can be used to kill viruses in large spaces.

I’m a 69 yo type 2 diabetic, controlled by diet and exercise alone. My last A1c was 5.8. While I’m still overweight (working on it!) I’m in otherwise robust health. I take extra vitamins A, C, and D all winter. Additionally I live in Arizona, where there’s year round sunshine, so I get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. I don’t get flu shots, and haven’t had flu since my teens.

I recently retired from a career in healthcare data analytics, where I was able to observe the data from around 1,000 diabetic patients (tracking their compliance with HEDIS measures was part of my job). The vast majority of them had A1cs of between 7.0 and 9.5, with a few outliers as high as 12. Very few were under 7.0 and none under 6.0 — most of them had some comorbidity, or diabetic complications. I can see that they would be at a greater risk from any infectious disease, as they’re in generally poor health.

Is a well-controlled diabetic (especially one controlled by diet alone), with no other health issues, at any greater risk than the general population?

    • Author Icon

      Jarett,
The answer is ‘yes’. Diabetics have more ACE2 receptors in their lungs–which COVID-19 binds to. But, by eating a healthy diet and following a holistic program, you can help your immune system function better.

Dr. B, consider nixing your lots-of-water advice,
as U.S. water supplies are near-to-toxic unsafe—
and the more consumption, the more poisoning
by fluoride. It may be best to drink water when
one is thirsty (( preferably filtered)). That’s been
the trigger for hydrating—for millions of years. -Rick

Dr. Brownstein, I admire you greatly and consider you a patriot simply because you stand up for what is right even if you feel like David standing up to Goliath. I want everyone to know about the power of using water/food purifiers to ozone your drinking water. It has had amazing results for me in maintaining optimal health in addition to the vitamin supplementation (similar to what you recommend).

Vitamin D (D3) – 50,000 IEUs (cholecalciferol) every 2-3 days (no problems), Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate) – 40-50,000 IEUs every other day, Vitamin C (Whole Food Organic) – 1000 mg daily

From Bill Sardi (7 years of….): Longevinex Advantage (3 capsules daily) = Trans-resveratrol, plus other key supplements all-in-one…, Garlique (Allicin capsules)

NAD+ = Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide = to help with metabolism and DNA repair working with Longevinex (stem cell repair!)

Water Ozonation to further add oxygen to my body to make it less hospitable for bacteria and viruses

I haven’t had a fever or a viral infection in 11 years since I stopped getting vaccinated. The last vaccine was H1N1 and I felt like I was going to die one week after the shot. Never again! My only problem today is Chronic Sinusitis and Conventional Medicine just keeps giving my antibiotics because of nasal sinus polyps I show on CT scans that flare up when the Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall seasonal changes occur. How can I cure my sinusitis? That is the only health issue I have and I cannot find a CURE!

The medical system is aimed at making money. Conventional doctors are trained to practice and perpetuate that system. Most physicians do not even know what the medications they prescribe contain. They do not know what damage those medications provoke either. And even less they know how to heal the damage done. And they think of themselves as the only realistic option to cure diseases. It is an absolutely chaotic establishment in terms of health…Medications are not essential to life, nutrients are.m

Thank you so much for sharing your awesome knowledge. I have been a nurse for many years and actually found myself getting caught up in all this panic. Because I am a nurse you would think I would know better.
I used to be a patient of yours many years ago and to this day you are the only doctor that helped me. I moved to Florida in 2003 and have never felt as good as I did when I was being treated by you. I tried multiple holistic doctors down here …. but not one came even close to how you practiced medicine . I so appreciated this article because it calmed my panic and reminded me what is really true.
I hate to say this but I am horrified at our health care system and even more horrified that I am a pert of it.
If I still lived in MI , I would be begging to be a part of your practice. Thank you for all your amazing books and all you do for people . Thank you for your passion , for your true concern for people. You are the most down to earth, most intelligent, most caring, most sincere doctor I have ever known. I’m a newer patient of yours and my 13 year old daughter (Scleroderma and Systemic Sclerosis ILD patient) sees Jen. Because of the Scleroderma and ILD she takes Cellcept which is immune suppressing. I have had both of us on 50,000 u Vitamin D and 3,000 mg vitamin C and 30 mg of Zinc daily. Would you suggest I tweak that? Today I removed her from school, as well as my 17 year old son. We will limit our outings to necessity only (although my husband is still going to work he is reducing human contact). I also have a 17 year old son who is not immune suppressed (he has extensive food allergies though) and I have had him on the same basic protocol as my daughter and I. John W. Armstrong in this 1944 book, The Water of Life, relates diverse case histories of self healing of people he supervised to drink their own urine, fasting, and in some cases rubbing urine into skin. He states people healed themselves from gangrene infections, kidney stones, breast cancer, malaria. He states colds and flue would resolve themselves within 24 hours . I myself have confirmed that human urine is an excellent wound dressing, encouraging healing without or little scar tissue. In urine there is hydrogen peroxide, stem cells, vitamins, minerals, hormones, etc. Armstrong call it living tissue. Its an interesting read, and maybe those billy goats who piss in their own face know something modern medicine is ignorant of ?!

Hi Dr Brownstein…i work in a Healthfood shop in the U.k for 20 years and have always been told high doses of vitamin A is toxic especially to the liver so i would be worried taking this amount? Also is it just for 4 days if you start to feel ill? Is it good to take Vit A as a preventative as well? I always supplement with D3, zinc, selenuim and vit c but have never used vit A . Does it need to be palmitate or acetate? Many thanks Paula

          Paula,
Vitamin A and D can both build up in the body. That is why I only recommend these large doses for 4 days.

Your straightforward educated approach to COVID-19 is the kind of information people need. I am curious, however, about what form of Vitamin A you suggest. So many warnings about high doses of beta carotene or Vitamin A palmitate commonly found in supplements (with no comment that it must be balanced with Vitamin D intake). For the great unwashed among us, what do you suggest we look for if we are to dose high enough for positive effect since we’re not able to use IV?

      MJ,
Vitamin A is what I recommend here, NOT beta carotene. I will correct that in the article.

Thank you Dr B for another great post! I ordered Vit A and D from your store and they arrived today. I also have plenty of Vit C on hand. I began taking the C sometime ago at 2-5 mg daily. I am also on 50 mg. of Iodoral and the companion nutrients for almost 3 months now. I managed to do it all by reading your Iodine book plus a few others I ordered from your store. All very helpful. I do eat healthy, organic and gluten free, drink lots of clean water. I agree everyone is scared of this virus, I am too, to some degree, as I am one of the folks that are told to be careful. I have had chronic fatigue for many years after a bout with Lyme disease. My adrenals are tired but I am hoping your suggestions will help with the issues I have. This post gave me some confidence that I can stop worrying so much. Thanks! I live in Michigan and am going to make it a point to call your office and make an appt with Jenny! I would love to try the Vit C IV and the Peroxide too, Ozone sounds like a winner as well.

Again thank you for taking time to share with everyone. I’m sure all of us appreciate your willingness to take time to make this info available!!

What about rectal ozone and or ears?

    • Author Icon

      Dr. Ira,
YES! YES! and YES! Ozone rectally, vaginally and in the ears will be a help for this and other viral infections. This can be done at home. I have many of my patients doing that.
